It wasn't until 2019, when I was in grad school for art education, that I first learned about Penland School of Craft... and I immediately wondered WHY HAD I NEVER HEARD OF THIS PLACE??
I've been twice now, as a student first of blacksmithing and then woodworking, and both experiences completely changed my world! There's a reason why Penland is considered one of the top five craft schools in the world, and there are MANY reasons why I want to spend all my money to be a student there working 'til midnight every day for two weeks of the summer, every year, just for the fun of it--because it's for the love of craft and learning and community. BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY
Provo, Utah
I owe my love of art and design, and my career as an art educator, to Brigham Young University! I earned both my undergrad (BFA in Illustration Design, BA in Art Education K-12) and graduate (MA in Art Education) degrees from BYU, plus was a student in two art-based summer Study Abroad programs.

The Masters Degree in Art Education was obviously the impetus for this website, but I also took a number of courses in art and craft for personal enrichment while working towards that degree; if I was going to go back to school, might as well go full-time and take every single class that I could, right?? EXACTLY.
